About Wake County

Wake County School and University Information

Wake County Public and Private schools

As the 19th largest public school system in the United States and the second largest public school system in the state of North Carolina, Wake County Public Schools has an enrollment of 153,000 students attending over 153 schools. Because of the accelerated annual enrollment growth, the Wake County Public School System expects to gain over 5,000 new students for the 2008-2009 academic school year. To address the growth of the Triangle area, the school system is converting more traditional calendar schools to year round based schools. Another challenge when attempting to keep up with area growth is to build more schools which seems logical except for the ever-present Wake County budget constraints. The Wake County Board of Commissioners and the Wake County School Board are working together to address these growth issues and provide the high quality education our children so richly deserve.
