Apex- a Wonderful Place to call Home

History of Apex

If you are ready to live the “ Peak of Good Living” (the town motto), we welcome you to the charming town of Apex, North Carolina. Typical of life in Wake County charm, home owners find life in Apex is filled with graceful small town hospitality lending it's residents superior quality of life. With all the conveniences of big city life just a short drive away from the Wake County sister cities of Cary and Raleigh, Apex offers a vibrant way of living, learning, playing, worshiping, and working.

Apex - A Railroad Town at Heart

Deriving its namesake from the Raleigh and Gaston Railroad (then the Seaboard Air Line Railroad in 1900 which then merged with the Atlantic Coastline in 1967 to form the Seaboard Coastline Railroad and later merged with the Chessie System Railroad in 1980 to form the CSX Railroad), Apex is recognized for being the highest point on the railroad between Richmond, VA and Jacksonville, FL. Like many Wake County railroad towns, Apex was chartered as a railroad stop and community in the mid-1800s.

Downtown Apex is Reborn!

Growth in Apex gradually began to take place in the early 1990s as result of the “spill over effect” of growth in nearby Cary. Today, Apex is a desirable Wake County town in its own right offering residents and visitors alike many wonderful conveniences and amenities. Recent improvements to downtown Apex have stimulated a rebirth of the area with new businesses causing the downtown business district to thrive. One can enjoy a fresh brewed coffee, great food, a visit to an antique dealer or shop in several fashionable clothing boutiques.

Recognition Comes to Apex

In the July 2007 issue of Money Magazine, Apex residents celebrated the announcement that the editors of this national publication named Apex as one of the top communities in the country to live (Rank #14). Take a leisurely drive through the streets of Apex you’ll find beautiful scenery, and a quaint Downtown Historic District. Our turn-of-the-century train depot, constructed between 1867 and 1873, remains a focal point for the town’s identity.
